Software Tiers
OpenCal is available in three software tiers; Test, Drive and Optimise. These tiers offer the flexibility to choose the right level of functionality for your application or use case, so you only pay for what you need. For more information on each software tier, please download the OpenCal Product Summary sheet.
- Test: - Simplified control for dyno use.
The Base tier offers a stripped-down interface for rapid deployment, with fixed switching frequency, slew rates, PI gains and single-value motor lookups, the Base tier is perfect for rapid deployment and fast iteration. - Drive*: Mule-car ready.
The Drive tier offers an increased level of control functionality, suitable for integration into early prototypes or mule cars. With increased parameter variability, tuneable torque maps, resolver & speed plausibility and more, the Drive tier is perfect to get you moving. - Optimise*: Take full control**.
The Optimise tier offers the broadest level of functionality, suitable for applications pushing the boundaries of control & performance. With MTPA optimisation, two-speed dv/dt, complex motor parameter LUTs and the widest range of parameter tuneability, the Optimise tier puts your powertrain into pole position.
* Drive and Optimise tiers will be available in 2026.
** OpenCal offers a sub-set of the complete suite of tuning parameters available within the MCU Product Family, and should not be used for production vehicle programs without formal sign-off from Motion Applied. How It Works
Upon purchase of a Motion Applied MCU with OpenCal, you will be given access to the Motion Applied portal where all information, documentation, and files required to start calibrating and tuning the inverter are available, this includes:
- User Manual
- Calibration Guide
- Product Configuration Document
- Motor Parameter Calibration Tool
- CAN database (DBC) file
- Vflashpack
- Vector CANape Project Front-end and associated software files (.hex, A2L)
Users will require an XCP compliant tool for calibration and a UDS compliant tool for re-flashing and diagnostics. Motion Applied recommends Vector CANape, and provides all necessary scripts and interfaces for Vector-based tooling.
Through the Motion Applied portal, users can also access Motion Applied’s world-class engineering team through support & feature request tickets for a recurring fee. For more information on the levels of support available and pricing, please contact sales.
